Cannes Film Festival HighlightsHeath Ledger's Last Film To Screen at the World's Oldest Film Fest
One of the most anticipated films at the 62nd annual Festival De Cannes is Terry Gilliam's surreal morality tale,The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
Heath Ledger died before completing the film and was replaced by Jude Law, Colin Farrell and Johnny Depp who shared his role of a circus performer. Quentin Tarantino and Ang Lee will present their latest films, bouyed by top name onscreen talents. Brad Pitt leads an the star cast in Tarantino’s WWII drama Inglorious Basterds, while Liev Schreiber and Emile Hirsch will star in the period piece Taking Woodstock for Lee. European directors dominate this year’s lineup, featuring a return to filmaking for Lars von Trier as he presents Antichrist. Also of note are Michael Haneke's The White Ribbon, Isabel Coixet's Map of the Sounds of Tokyo and Italian Marco Bellocchio's Vincere. Sam Raimi is one of the few US filmmakers presenting, with Drag Me To Hell. It was previously announced that Disney’s 3-D adventure Up will open the festival on May 13th, the first time an animated film has had that honour. The festival closes May 24 with Jan Kounen's Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky. Cannes is the world's best known film festival, and has launced the films, careers and reputations of countless stars, directors and producers.
